Functional Unit 1 comprises the section of road between the municipality of Remedios and the municipality of Zaragoza, where a new 58-kilometer-long road was constructed. Functional Unit 1 begins in the El Llano de C\u00f3rdoba sector in the municipality of Remedios (Km 0+000) and ends at Km 58 near the urban area of Zaragoza. The reinforcement of the embankment with uniaxial geogrids was key to stabilizing this road.<\/span><\/p>\n

The site of interest corresponds to the section located in the area known as \u201cEl Cenizo\u201d in the municipality of Zaragoza, between the abscissas K36+000 and K36+130 of Functional Unit 1.<\/span><\/p>\n

Problem:<\/b>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

In this section, an embankment for the road was constructed, and work proceeded without interruption, <\/span><\/span>in compliance with the project's defined technical specifications, until its construction is completed in October <\/span><\/span><\/span>of 2020.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After it was built, serious cracks appeared in the middle of the heavy rainy season during the months of <\/span><\/span>October through December 2020, which necessitated new designs, for which the following activities were carried out: <\/span><\/span>geological and geotechnical site investigation, field tests, and detailed engineering analyses.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to carry out the new construction work, it was necessary to dismantle the original embankment, in <\/span><\/span>where the magnitude of the cracks associated with a large movement of <\/span><\/span>landslides caused by the presence of groundwater in the foundation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
