The reinforcement of granular layers with uniaxial geogrids is a geotechnical engineering technique used to improve the stability of soils and structures built on them. Uniaxial geogrids FORTGRID UX are a high-strength polyester mesh that is layered between granular soil layers. The geogrid provides additional strength to the soil layer, which improves its ability to withstand horizontal and vertical loads.

The ribs are made from high tenacity polyester multifilament fibers PET, a special synthetic polymer for the manufacture of geosynthetics that owes its special characteristics to its higher level of polymerization compared to other resins such as polypropylene PP, polyethylene PE and high density polyethylene HDPE.
During the production process, the polyester granules are transformed into multifilament fibers that resemble small high-strength strands called G5 Multifilaments. This process includes a first extrusion stage through which the virgin material is converted into fine continuous filaments as shown in Figure 2 and a second stage in which they are subjected to a tension and compression process that confers special mechanical characteristics such as long-term mechanical stability (low creep), high tensile strength and high deformation modulus.

Once formed, they are coated with a copolymer that increases their dimensional rigidity and increases their resistance to installation damage, UV rays and aggressive chemical environments.
