Protect and control the phenomenon of scour
Hoisted coverings to protect and control the scour phenomenon
Rockfill mattresses with geogrids
In hydraulic marginal protection projects, when the section hydraulics cannot be channeled through a temporary structure to carry out the dry execution of the works, it is necessary to consider alternatives that can be hoisted, in order to protect and control the phenomenon of scour. These structures in many cases act as a complement to sheet piling, piles or other types of marginal protections with deep foundations, which also seek to contribute to the protection and channeling of the tributary.
Within our range of GEOMALLS, the GEOESTRAL HYDROMEL It has a fundamental role in allowing the formation of coatings in rockfill mattresses in hydraulic works at the edge of water and under water, which reduce tractive forces, providing control both upstream and downstream of the projected protection.
The GEOSTER HYDROMELF is manufactured from high-tenacity polyester multifilament fibers that are subsequently subjected to an impregnation process with a copolymer, which gives it high resistance to tension, punching and tearing, achieving excellent performance against exposure to UV rays and abrasion generated in rivers.
At the time of design, depending on the hydraulic conditions and geometry of the rockfill mattress, one of the four geogrid specifications is chosen: GEOSTER HYDROMID, which corresponds to the versions of 50, 80, 150 and 300, where the number makes reference to the ultimate tensile strength in kN/m. Typically, thicknesses range between 15 and 60 cm, depending on the cutting defined for the project under study.
The effectiveness of the lifting system is achieved by confining the riprap (pebbles of rock or gravel in size that can vary between 4 and 8 inches in diameter) in the containers, achieving a continuous porous medium that helps dissipate the energy of the water, offering durability and long-term resistance capacity, which thanks to its flexibility adapts to the changing shapes of hydraulic sections in the long term.
Finally, with the GEOESTERA by lifting, the placement of mattresses on rockfill can be achieved, achieving a versatile solution that is easy to install, in order to protect and control the phenomenon of scour in the bed and slopes of the channel, which can act alone or as a complement to other protection structures such as sheet piling, piles or other type of marginal protection with deep foundations, in rivers, pipes or streams.
