HOW TO INSTALL A REINFORCEMENT GEOTEXTILE?
The optimal performance of pavement structures built with geosynthetics depends on proper installation and maintenance practices. The Installation of woven geotextile reinforcement FORTEX BX is a process that must be carried out with care to ensure its effectiveness in applications such as soil stabilization, filtration, the separation of material layers, or structural reinforcement. The general steps for the Installation of woven geotextile reinforcement FORTEX BX:
1. Site Preparation:
The area where the reinforced woven geotextile will be installed must be inspected FORTEX BX to identify soil conditions, potential obstacles, and specific project requirements. The site must be graded through cutting or filling to achieve the elevations and slopes indicated in the project plans and design documents, and properly compacted whenever possible. Once this has been done, any existing irregularities must be corrected. It is recommended to remove rocks, debris, vegetation, logs, shrubs, and other protruding materials found on the surface to avoid damaging the geotextile during installation.
2. Installation of the Geotextile
The geotextile must be unpacked and unrolled FORTEX BX Lay the material on the prepared surface so that it remains taut and wrinkle-free, completely covering the work area. To ensure continuity, overlaps or seams should be created at the joints between rolls. For soil stabilization or reinforcement applications, the following criteria are recommended for determining the overlaps between rolls:
| CRB (%) | Overlap (CM) |
| <1 | 100 |
| 1-3 | 60 |
| >3 | 30 |
At the end of each roll, the overlap must be 1.0 m
3. Securing the Geotextile:
At the beginning of the scroll, the boThe crosswise (widthwise) strip must be secured to the surface using 10 x 10 x 10 cm U-shaped metal staples in v6.4 steel ring ó 9.5 mm (1/4”)” ó 3/8”). It will be possible ton place additional staples along of the strip by adjusting the edges, overlap zone central and where it is considered nnecessary to ensure that the geotextile is tensioned and wrinkle-free and that I don't know displace during the arrangement of forming material, the latter maximizes its reinforcing capacity. The amount will depend on soil conditions and project requirements.
4. Placement of the Granular Material Layer
Once the geotextile is secured, proceed to place the layer of specified material, starting at the end where the material supply equipment can access the site, and work forward, covering the geotextile evenly until the required thickness is achieved using front-loaders. In the case of soft, compressible soils, a material cover must always be maintained for equipment operation, as indicated in the Guide to Installation of Geotextiles FORTEX BX. Finally, the granular material is compacted to the specified density to ensure proper integration with the geotextile and improve its structural performance.
Special Recommendations
- It is recommended to check the thickness of the forming material to ensure that the layer thickness matches the design specifications.
- Before beginning the installation of the materials, you must select and have on hand the necessary construction machinery and equipment. Use the appropriate equipment for the installation, such as rollers to unroll the geotextile and light machinery to lay and compact the cover material.
- While it is true that anchoring with mechanical fasteners facilitates the installation of the geotextile, the performance of the structure depends to a greater extent on the quality, angularity, and degree of compaction of the material with which it is confined.
- As a general guideline, the subgrade material should be compacted to achieve an average density of 95% of that obtained in the Proctor test. The density of the material will gradually increase as the layer of soft, compressible soil is penetrated.
- Avoid installing the geotextile in adverse weather conditions, such as heavy rain or strong winds, as these can make the installation process difficult.
- Always follow the recommendations provided in the geotextile installation guide FORTEX. By following these steps and taking into account the specific recommendations from GEOMATRIX, you can ensure proper installation. Correct installation of a reinforcing geotextile is crucial to ensuring its effectiveness in the project.
