REINFORCEMENT OF ASPHALT FOLDERS WITH GEOMAL GRIDS

geomallas

The ASTM defines geogrids as a geosynthetic formed by a regular network of integrally connected elements with openings greater than 6.35 mm (1⁄4 in.) to allow interlocking with the surrounding soil, rock, earth or other materials providing reinforcement. Geogrids for asphalt layers are a particular group of these, whose function is to provide reinforcement to asphalt concrete.

Our geogrids for asphalt layers FORTGRID ASPHALT They are made with the exclusive G5 multifilament, made of high-tenacity PET polyester, which forms an orthogonal arrangement of straps or ribs that are covered with a bituminous material, which are characterized by:

· They present high resistance to cyclic loading in both tension and shear.

· They have high resistance to tension.

· They resist high temperatures (softening point greater than 240 ºC).

· They have affinity with asphalt, providing high efficiency in shear resistance at the interface.

· They have low susceptibility to installation damage. Their belts and intersections admit the pressure of the aggregate without deteriorating and are strong and stable enough to allow the penetration of particles through their openings.

· They do not alter the recyclability of asphalt concrete.

Among the main benefits of its use are:

· They improve fatigue resistance: they help distribute the horizontal stresses and deformations due to tension, which occur in the lower plane of the asphalt layers under the action of vehicle overloads, which reduces the formation of cracks and fissures due to fatigue.

· They increase the resistance to cracking by reflection: When an asphalt overlay is placed on a cracked pavement, cracks can propagate from the lower layer to the upper one. Placing the geogrid at this interface provides resistance to tension, controlling the reflection of cracks, prolonging the useful life of the new layer.

· Control permanent deformations: Geogrid reduces the formation of rutting or rutting due to high volume of traffic and heavy loads.

· Reduce the thickness of asphalt layers: In some cases, the inclusion of geogrids allows reducing the thickness of the asphalt layers necessary to meet the design requirements, which saves costs, materials and construction times.

· Increase the support capacity: The geogrid improves the structural capacity of the pavement, since the direct contact between the layers involved through its openings guarantees the condition of linked layers with a consequent increase in the structural capacity, which expands the design options.

· They extend the intervals between periodic maintenance.

The geogrids FORTGRID ASPHALT are a very efficient solution in rehabilitation work on existing asphalt layers, pavements on stabilized granular bases and reinforcement of new asphalt layers in cases of joints for widening roads and excavations for public service networks, among others.
